My wife and I had the pleasure of traveling to Alaska on the Holland American ship Volendam and visited the ports of Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. The ship and its crew were absolutely amazing Our trip was in May and we had perfect weather all the time we were there, (one week). We paned for gold, went to a cook out where the grilled Salmon over an open fire of Aldenwood. This was held on the site of an old gold mine.
The sightseeing is terrific, especially the tour on the narrow guage White Pass railroad. We got on at the dock and wound through the town and went up to the top of the mountain where the miners started their treck into the Yukon.
The replica of the logging camp with the loggers competing was well worth the admission price. Be sure to stick around and have your picture taken.
